Your pets are part of the family, but when your immune system is low from treatment (neutropenia), you have to change how you interact with them.

The Do’s: Snuggling is usually fine! Ensure your pets are up to date on all vaccinations and flea/tick prevention. Always wash your hands after playing with them.

The Don’ts: Avoid “mouth-to-face” contact. Do not clean litter boxes, bird cages, or fish tanks yourself, as these contain bacteria that your body currently cannot fight. If you have no one else to help, wear a mask and gloves.
